Abaixo estão três implementações separadas para cada SQL Server, MySQL e Oracle. Nenhum usa (ou pode) a mesma abordagem, então não parece haver uma maneira cruzada de DBMS para fazê-lo. Para MySQL e Oracle, apenas o teste de inteiro simples é mostrado; para SQL Server, o teste numérico completo é mostrado.

Para SQL Server:observe que isnumeric('.') retorna 1.. mas não pode ser convertido para float. Alguns textos como '1e6' não podem ser convertidos em numérico diretamente, mas você pode passar por float e depois numérico.
